Job Title:  Principle Pre-development Engineer Metallurgy

About the role:

Defines the metal module solutions for platform(s) to drive Performance, Quality and Costs. 
Subject matter expert in Metals, developing technical solution for product development and support manufacturing improvements. 
Drive cost savings (DFX) initiatives related to metals components / module / assemblies in the product category. 
Technical lead in driving the subject matter knowledge transfer and process transfer. 

The impact you’ll make:

  • Materials Selection and Process Development: Selecting appropriate materials, determining the requirement, and work with manufacturing team to qualify processes for metal components/module/assemblies. Focus on stainless steel, steel alloys, aluminum alloys, copper alloy, etc.  
  • Responsible for performance / quality / cost of the metal components / module / assemblies applied on platform, by working with Product Project manager and leader to validate it. Understands how to optimize the full value potential.
  • Defines needed improvements and oversees their executions.
  • Testing and Analysis: Developing and executing test method and test plans to assess the mechanical and physical properties of metallic alloys and assembles. Perform and oversee the material characterization and analysis to identify areas for innovation and improvement.
  • Execute the platform and conducts together with the Testing team the testing & validation on both part & system level.
  • Responsible for identifying and executing cost savings (DFX) initiatives related to metals components / module / assemblies in the product category.
  • Serve as technical lead in driving the knowledge transfer and process transfer between sites. Team up with procurement to drive sourcing strategy Tier 1 / Tier 2 supplier.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, including Product team, R&D functions, Manufacturing, and Quality to take a solution from conception through development and into production.
  • Project Management: Leading technical projects related to the specialization, and ensuring timelines are met.
  • Leads benchmark to ensure competitiveness. Supports scouting team in analyse and assess new supplier-based innovation and their platform according to the (sub)category platform strategy.

The skills and knowledge you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years in metals related industry.
  • Knowledge and experience in metallurgy and metal works of stainless steel, steel, aluminum, copper based alloys.
    Process knowledge in die-casting, forming, welding, joining and surface preparation of metals.  
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or material science related to metals.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including material characterization, electron microscopy, elemental analysis etc.  
  • Strong communicator, capable of working and influencing with cross-functional teams of internal and external organization.
